Come out and take part in the JCB’s Backhoe Across America charity drive kickoff on Friday, March 26 in the 18^th Street Parking Lot on Tybee Island at 9:30 a.m. In response to the ongoing needs in Haiti, JCB, one of the world’s largest manufacturers of construction equipment, is starting its Backhoe Across America charity drive, a national initiative in partnership with the American Red Cross.

On March 18^th from 5-6 p.m., the second concert in the Third Thursday Concert series was held at Tybee Oaks.  Cultural Arts organizer, Patricia Miller Wann, greeted folks as they arrived.  Patricia was also taking photographs of the happy crowd.  The singer/songwriter, Lauren Lapointe, delighted the audience with her Canadian references and stories.

The small Savannah beach community of Tybee Island, is gearing up for its big screen debut on March 31^st in The Last Song starring Miley Cyrus, Greg Kinnear and Kelly Preston. This Disney/Touchstone major motion picture was filmed on Tybee Island during the summer of 2009.

It’s been thrilling having the China Painters here again on Tybee Island for the 3^rd annual GA Seminars by the Sea Porcelain Painter classes. With the seminar coming to a close on Sunday it’s been a great success this year with 160 students registered and 13 world renowned artists from Portugal, Brazil, Argentina and the U.S. here to teach the sessions. Session topics have included porcelain hand building, roses on vases, Dresden antique and gold plates and portrait painting. Read the rest of this entry »

A note from Vicky- A special thanks for the kind words, beautiful flowers from the TITC, and condolences from so many during the loss of my mother last month.  While putting together a tribute video for her I found some wonderful pictures of her at Tybee as a young girl.  It makes me proud to work in a place that she loved so much. Each month we will fill you in on the latest happenings in the world of Tybee Tourism as well as reporting on tourism trends and updates on a local, state, regional and national level.

We’re looking forward to participating in the Tybee Island Irish Heritage Parade as well as the Savannah St. Patrick’s Day Parade as we have been working for some time on the renovations of the Tybee Island float. The renovations are complete and the float was debuted in last month’s Mardi Gras parade.
