Bird Watching & Wildlife Viewing on Tybee Island

bird-watching
Bird watching is legendary year-round on Tybee, which is part of the Colonial Coast Birding Trail.

There are always plenty of scurrying seabirds on our beach –- you’ll see scores of black skimmers and red-billed oyster-catchers at the north end of the island.

In winter, we have an amazing array of visiting northern seabirds, including purple sandpipers, sanderlings, turnstones, dunlins, knots and black bellied plovers. You’ll see such long-legged wading birds as the graceful egrets, great blue herons, ibis and storks, especially on Little Tybee Island, Georgia.

Majestic osprey and bald eagles will amaze you with their “fly-fishing” ability. At Fort Pulaski, look for the Disney-like painted bunting in spring and summer along the woodlands, where you’ll also see and hear migratory songbirds.
